SOS RCO to Receive 2017 Recovery Provider of the Year Award

SOS Recovery Community Organization (SOS RCO) has been named the 2017 Recovery Provider of the Year by the NH Providers Association and will be honored July 20th at the Association’s Annual Meeting.

“We are honored and humbled to receive notification that we will be honored with this distinction. Many thanks to the NH Providers Association, as well as our staff, advisory board, volunteers, SOS members and the community,” said John Burns, director of SOS RCO. “This award truly speaks to the tireless efforts of the recovery community and our allies who have put so much time and effort into building effective and robust recovery supports in Strafford County.”

The mission of SOS RCO is to reduce the stigma and harm associated with substance misuse by providing a safe space and peer based supports for people in all stages of recovery. In September 2016, SOS RCO opened its first recovery center in Rochester and the next month opened its second recovery center in Durham. Just recently, SOS RCO opened a third center in Dover.

“Each recovery community center strives to provide unique services designed to be responsive to the needs of those seeking recovery - those in early and long term sustained recovery, as well as their families and friends. Communities recover together,” said Joe Hannon, chair of the SOS RCO Advisory Board. “Programs include Peer Recovery Coaching, Telephone Recovery Supports, meetings and special programs ranging from Mindful Art in Recovery and Yoga to Indoor Rock Climbing and Music in Recovery”

The award will be presented at The NH Providers Association Annual Meeting and Awards Presentations being held Thursday, July 20th from 9 a.m. to noon at Mills Falls in Meredith NH. The mission of The NH Providers Association is to represent its members in advancing substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery through public policy, leadership, professional development, and quality member services.

“We are so looking forward to honoring SOS Recovery Center at our annual meeting,” Courtney Grant Tanner, executive director of NH Providers Association stated in her notification email to SOS RCO. “The 2017 Provider award recipients earn a beautiful trophy to honor their work and a $100 to continue their good work!”

According to the NH Providers Association website recipients of the Provider of the Year awards are selected by the NH Providers Association Board of Directors after careful consideration of nomination criteria. Winners are those whose exceptional delivery of services to the community sets a high standard of quality and impact in the substance abuse and behavioral healthcare field. While the organizations serve as exemplary models overall, particular focus may be given to success related, but not limited, to board excellence, programmatic evaluation and impact, fundraising, innovation, and collaboration with other entities.

“The recovery revolution is alive and well in Strafford County and this award belongs to the entire community that has made this vision a reality,” said Burns. “Thank you all who come in for our programming and services and take the difficult, but rewarding, steps needed to find and maintain recovery and show others the authentic faces of recovery in our community.”

SOS RCO is a program of Goodwin Community Health, which will also be honored by the NH Providers Association as the 2017 Treatment Provider of the Year.
